Barley Grass is the leaf portion of the Barley plant and has been recognised for its high concentrations of vitamins, minerals amino acids and enzymes. It has been suggested that Barley grass contains all of the vitamins, minerals and proteins necessary for the human diet, making it a great addition to any diet.
When compared on a per weight basis it is believed that Barley Grass is seven times richer in Vitamin C than oranges, five times richer in iron than spinach and ten times richer in calcium than milk.
Barley Grass also has a high content of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is similar in structure to Haemoglobin therefore it has been shown to increase the oxygen carrying capabilities of the blood. Oxygenated blood can provide numerous health benefits including increased energy, improved brain function and extra defences against unhealthy toxins. Chlorophyll also acts as a powerful anti-oxidant that neutralises toxins in the body by purifying blood and cleansing the cells helping the body to reduce the effects of harmful toxins and free radicals. This can result in the reduced likelihood of a variety of illnesses and ailments including cancer and heart disease.
Barley Grass is also recognised for its high superoxide dismutase (SOD) content. SOD helps with the digestive process by helping to disperse vitamins and minerals into the blood stream. Combined with the vitamin content SOD also makes Barley Grass an effective antioxidant.
Barley Grass has a high alkalizing effect which helps control the body's acid levels, allowing for optimal cell function.
